Semco Teak Sealer
Semco Teak Sealer
Semco restores the golden-brown glow of lightly weathered teak to your teak. It's a water-based, environmentally friendly teak finish that contains pigments, a UV inhibitor, and moisture protection. It repels water without making the surface slippery. It makes maintaining your teak a breeze.
The average usage is 6 to 9 square meters per liter for the first coat. For the second coat, or a repeat treatment, usage is about half that amount, at 12 to 20 square meters per liter.
Follow these instructions for maintaining beautiful teak with minimal effort.
Step 1: Clean the teak wood with SEMCO Teak Cleaner.
To treat teak with SEMCO Teak Sealer, it's essential to thoroughly clean the surfaces to be treated. If there is any varnish or lacquer on the teak, this must first be removed. Use SEMCO Teak Cleaner, the most effective cleaner for teak. Once the teak has been cleaned with Teak Cleaner and then treated seasonally with SEMCO Teak Sealer, it won't need to be cleaned again with SEMCO Teak Cleaner for years. New teak or recently sanded teak should be exposed to the elements for about three weeks and then thoroughly cleaned with water and (green) soap.
Step 2: Apply SEMCO Teak Sealer.
If the teak has previously been treated with SEMCO Teak Sealer and deep cleaning with SEMCO Teak Cleaner is not necessary (unless you want to remove old SEMCO Sealer), follow the steps below:
- Remove the lid from the can and stir the SEMCO Teak Sealer thoroughly until the contents are completely mixed and the color is even. Stir regularly during application to ensure the teak is evenly colored. Leave the stirring stick in the can and stir it every few strokes.
- Use a foam brush, foam sponge, paintbrush, or cloth to apply SEMCO Teak Sealer. A foam roller is less effective. Allow the teak to absorb as much SEMCO Teak Sealer as possible. Work with the grain of the wood and wipe away any excess from seams and other surfaces. If sealer gets onto varnish or gelcoat, it's best to remove it with a damp cloth before it dries.
- After applying the first coat, a second coat can be applied immediately. Apply both coats within one day. After applying the second coat, rub it in with a clean, lint-free cloth and remove any sealer that hasn't been absorbed by the teak. For teak decks on yachts, it's important to rub the seams to prevent the pigment in the sealer from settling, which can affect the appearance.
- Under normal conditions, teak is dust-dry within 1 hour and can be walked on the next day. The drying process may be delayed in cold, cloudy, or damp weather.
- In most cases, two coats of SEMCO Teak Sealer are sufficient. More isn't always better. However, dried-out teak can absorb more sealer, so in that case, more coats should be applied. The colorless Cleartone version requires three to four coats the first time and requires more frequent reapplication due to its lack of pigment.
- After cleaning and sealing with SEMCO Teak Sealer, maintenance is simple. An occasional rinse with water, optionally with a mild detergent or shampoo, is sufficient. A new coat of SEMCO Teak Sealer should be applied every season. As long as water remains in beads on the teak (just like on a freshly waxed car), the SEMCO Teak Sealer is still active.
- SEMCO Teak Sealers can be mixed with each other to achieve different shades.
